Based in the UK, Dr Hakim is a Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist, and an Associate Professor in Medicine. Following undergraduate and graduate study at Cambridge University, Dr Hakim’s clinical practice from 1991 to the present has included training and consultant positions in Cambridge and London, UK.
Dr Hakim’s time is now spent primarily between education, clinical research, and advocacy and charity work in the field of the Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders. In 2018 Dr Hakim was appointed Adjunct Associate Professor in Medicine, PennState University, USA. He also joined the international charity The Ehlers-Danlos Society where he is the Chief Medical Officer and past Dir. of Education and Dir. of Research. In 2022 Dr Hakim was appointed Honorary Consultant at UCLH, London, where he supports clinical research.

Publications & Research.
Co-author & editor of 6 medical books, several chapters in major Rheumatology textbooks, and over 150 publications including original papers & reviews, Dr Hakim publishes widely in his field. He is a principal and sub investigator in several ongoing studies internationally in Europe, North America, & Australasia. Over 2024-25 he will be leading research, education, and infrastructure grants worth $4.6M & supporting other studies granted an additional $4.2M.
