Between 2012 and 2018 Dr Hakim was a Trustee and the Chief Medical Advisor to The Hypermobility Syndromes Association (HMSA), and has worked with the charity since the early 2000s. Dr Hakim remains dedicated to supporting the charity as a Medical Advisor.
Dr Hakim is also a Medical Advisor to Ehlers-Danlos Support, UK.
In 2018 Dr Hakim was appointed as a member of the Steering Committee of the International Consortium on EDS and HSD, and Chair of the hEDS/HSD working group of the consortium.
Since 2018 Dr Hakim has worked closely with the Ehlers-Danlos Society. He is their Chief Medical Officer and more recently also their Dir. of Education & Dir. of Research.
